Hastings - East Sussex Coast

We are situated in the heart of the 1066 country within close views of Hastings castle (built in 1067)!!

Other castles to tour in the 1066 area are Pevensey, Leeds, Bodiam, Lewes, Herstmonceux, Battle Abbey & Newhaven Fort.

Hastings is on the south east coast of East Sussex. We are approximately 1-1 1/2 hour’s drive away from the cross channel ports of Folkestone, Dover and Newhaven where ferries berth after their journeys from Calais, Boulogne, Ostend, Dunkirk and Dieppe. The channel tunnel terminal from France and Belguim is also only an hour away.

A easy 5 minute stroll from the guesthouse will take you along the promenade towards the old town of Hastings where you will see the larger seafront Hotels, the Hastings sea fishing fleet which is the largest beached sea fishing fleet in the country. Here you can see and purchase fresh fish, crabs and shell fish, many that have been bought ashore that morning.

Along the promenade there are the wonderful views of the Sussex coast and on warm fine days you may be able to see the coast of France and occasionally the dolphins playing around in the surf. Have a walk around the twittens of the old town, take a look in the "old curio's shops". Venture to any of the three museums or spend time in Blue Reef Aquarium or the Smugglers Adventure in St Clements caves. Hastings is full of cafes, restaurants and wine bars. Take a sample of the local cuisine most at very reasonable prices. (most main dishes are under £10).

There are several steam railways within a short drive, the Kent & East Sussex www.kesr.org.uk where you can stop off at the beautiful town of Tenterden. Try the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch, www.rhdr.org.uk here you can travel to Dungeness, a brilliant day out. The Bluebell www.bluebell-railway.co.uk or the Spa Valley www.spavalleyrailway.co.uk are both worth a visit.

A must, is a day out at Rye. Most visitors talk of this being "a typical English Village" Wander around the historical cobbled streets of Rye. Dine by the harbour or just visit the wild life & bird sanctuary.

Eastbourne & Brighton are only a few miles along the coast, take a look at the spectacular views at Beachy Head. 

Walkers/Ramblers.

There are some of the best walks in the country around the Hastings area. A short drive will take you into the Kent and Sussex countryside. Try the 1066 walk, www.highweald.org the Cuckoo Trail www.eastsussex.gov.uk or if you are not that fit try a wander in the Hastings Country Park, www.wildhastings.org.uk you'll be able to see much of the Sussex wildlife from rabbits to the local adders basking in the sun. Be more adventurous and try some of the rambles that we are able to offer to you whilst your staying with us. 

Whether you be a young at heart single to the more mature visitor Hastings & St Leonards has the place for you.

Hastings & St Leonards is said to be “the singles capital of Europe” Most evenings you will find “live music”. At weekends the town comes alive with many venues having high quality live gigs or discos. The entertainment begins early evening on Thursday's, Friday’s & Saturday’s and continues through to following Sunday morning. Sundays, entertainment begins late afternoon and runs into the late evening

There are also many sports bars for you supporters to watch your favourite sports. For those of you that prefer to sit in a quieter atmosphere do not despair.

Hastings can also entertain you with our hostelries situated on the seafront to the quaint smaller establishments spread around the nooks and crannies of the Old Town. Some of these buildings date back centuries and one has its own brewery (well worth a tipple).
